The Family Courts purpose is to promote conciliation in, and secure speedy settlement of, disputes relating to marriage and family affairs. Family courts hear all cases that relate to familial and domestic relationships but can also issue decisions regarding divorce cases.
In Cyprus we have one Family Court in each district, with the exceptions of Kerynia, which is merged with the Family Court of Nicosia, and Famagusta, which is merged with the Family Court of Larnaca. The mergers occurred after the Turkish Invasion in the island in 1974.
